Music for a dance-theatre work by Âmok/Âmok
About the work
contr(a/o)vers(e/u)s is a physical dance-theatre performance created by performer Lore Borremans and composer Adam Vincent Clarke for their company Âmok/Âmok. Exploring the tension between freedom, identity and the structures that shape us, the work places a solitary performer among hundreds of precariously stacked ceramic plates.
Combining live music, sound design and intensely physical movement, the performance gradually transforms from fragile stillness into a violent confrontation. As Borremans moves between, across and ultimately through the stacks of plates, their destruction becomes both an act of liberation and a source of danger. The work questions whether freedom can ever be achieved without consequence, and what remains when the structures defining our identities are broken apart.
