About the work
Study II for Sweetspot was composed for Sweetspot, a contemporary dance work created by Shane Urton for Repertory Dance Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The choreography explores the idea of a “sweet spot” - a point of balance where the greatest effect can be achieved with the least effort. Through moments of physical precision, cooperation and intimacy, the dancers investigate the relationship between movement, energy and human connection.
Written for solo piano, the music moves through contrasting sections, beginning with isolated musical phrases that gradually develop into longer melodic lines. Rhythmic intensity builds through the central section before giving way to a more spacious conclusion.
