Music for a ballet work by Daniel Domenech for Opera/Ballet Flanders
About the work
Y Tú is a contemporary ballet created in collaboration with Spanish choreographer Daniel Domenech for the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Opera Ballet Vlaanderen) in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2018.
Y Tú explores freedom, identity and the experiences of women confronting social expectations and oppression. Drawing on personal childhood experiences, Daniel Domenech examines the struggle for autonomy through a story set within a Roma community.
I'll keep the year, duration and premiere details unconfirmed until we establish them. The programme photograph provides a useful original source for your archive.
The score combines live instruments with electronic soundscapes and recorded human voices, drawing on interviews and conversations collected from people around the world. These recordings are abstracted and woven into the musical composition, bringing together documentary sounds, instrumental writing and movement to create a shared theatrical language.
